Pickled onions are delicious when added to Tacos, Burgers, Salads and Sandwiches. You can add pickled onions to pretty much anything and it will taste delicious. Pickled red onions can be stored in an airtight container and it stays fresh for up to a month in the refrigerator.
What you’ll need to make Easy Pickled Red Onions
- Red Onion
- Water
- Distilled white vinegar
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Maple syrup
- Salt
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
How to make Easy Pickled Onions with step by step photos & instructions
1. Slice the onions into thin long slices or thin circles.
2. Pack the onions into a 1-pint mason jar.
3. In a small bowl, combine the water, both vinegars, maple syrup, salt, and pepper flakes. Heat this mixture over a medium heat, then carefully pour the mixture into the jar over the onions.
4. Use a spoon to press the onions down into the vinegar. Let the pickled onions cool to room temperature.
5. It is ready to serve. Cover and refrigerate leftover pickled onions for up to a month.

- 1 Red Onion
- ½ cup Water
- ¼ cup Distilled White Vinegar
- ¼ cup Apple Cider Vinegar or additional white vinegar
- 1 ½ tbsp Maple syrup or Honey
- 1 ½ tsp Salt
