JUMP TO RECIPE

This Smoky Roasted Chickpeas recipe is the perfect crunchy, spicy, healthy, gluten-free and delicious protein packed snack! I personally have a lot of craving for spicy crunchy snacks and I have been on a goal to create some healthy snacks for our family. That is when I came up with this roasted chickpeas recipe. They’re so crispy, salty, spicy and perfect for everyday snacking, road trips, a movie night, parties and much more!

I used canned chickpeas because it’s EASY!!! But you can also use homemade soaked, cooked chickpeas as well. The main tip for your chickpeas to turn crispy is to wash and dry the chickpeas really well. I washed the chickpeas and dried them on my kitchen towel for a while so that all the moisture is absorbed by the linen. My second tip for crispy chickpeas is to avoid adding salt overhead, because adding salt may bring some moisture out leaving them soft.

These smoky, crunchy chickpeas will serve you well as both a snack and a crunchy, protein and fiber-rich topping for salads or soups. They will stay crisp in an airtight container for up to two weeks, just be sure to cook them until they’re just shy of burning for the crunchiest results.

How to make Smoky Roasted Chickpeas with step by step photos & instructions

7. Serve them as a snack or with the salad or top them on your soups!

  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Paprika
  • Garlic Powder
  • Olive Oil
Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Drain, rinse and pat the chickpeas dry on a kitchen towel.
Step 2
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the chickpeas.
Step 3
Drizzle all the seasonings and oil on the chickpeas. Mix well.
Step 4
Bake them for 30 minutes or until crispy.
Step 5
Remove from the oven, toss them with salt and serve!

Notes

  • It is important to dry the chickpeas completely to get them crunchy.
  • Add all the seasonings except salt to the chickpeas and add salt to them when they are done and cooled down. This leaves the chickpeas crispy for days.
  • You can also add all the seasonings at the end after the chickpeas are totally done and cooled down.
  • You can skip to spray oil if you want a more healthier version of this recipe.
  • For a sweet flavor you can add some maple syrup and toss them right before you eat.
  • You can use home cooked chickpeas but make sure they are cooked but not mushy.
