JUMP TO RECIPE

My style of Bread Pudding is a popular dessert which is made in India. It is made using bread slices, evaporated milk and condensed milk. Also it is topped with dry fruits for a delicious crunch. My recipe is made easy using a few quick hacks that makes this dessert healthy and simple to make anytime you crave for it.

Usually white bread is used to make the recipe, but then you can use any type of bread like whole wheat bread or brown bread. I used wheat bread to make this recipe a little healthier.

Also usually the bread is deep fried to make it more rich in taste, but I chose a healthy way to fry the bread. I used a bread toaster to toast the bread and then lightly brushed them with clarified butter on both sides of the bread.

I used evaporated milk to save a lot of time instead of using milk and boiling it until the milk is reduced to half of its original quantity. Also I used Condensed milk instead of adding a lot of sugar. Adding condensed milk makes the milk topping on the bread more creamy and rich. A lot of sugar can be reduced if condensed milk is used.

What you’ll need to make Bread Pudding

  • Bread slices
  • Clarified Butter(Ghee)
  • Evaporated milk
  • Condensed milk
  • Saffron strands
  • Cardamom powder
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Mixed nuts – 2 tbsp (I used sliced almonds and cashews)

How to make Bread Pudding with step by step photos & instructions

There are 3 parts in making this recipe – Sugar syrup, Creamy Milk mixture and Bread Toasting.

Once all these three parts are done separately, all are layered together in a flat bowl.

1. Add one teaspoon of clarified butter (ghee) in a pan and fry the nuts until they turn golden brown. I used cashews and sliced almonds. You can also use raisins and pistachios if you like.

2. To make Sugar syrup – Add ½ cup water and ½ cup sugar in a plan and heat it until the sugar is dissolved in water and forms a thin sticky consistency.

3. To make the Bread – Toast the bread in a toaster until both sides turn to golden brown. Cut each bread piece diagonally into two pieces.

4. Brush both the sides of the bread with clarified butter and keep aside.

5. To make Creamy Milk Mixture – Add 1 can evaporated milk and ½ cup condensed milk in a pan and boil until it turns into a thick creamy consistency.

6. Now add a few saffron strands and ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder to the milk syrup, mix well and keep it aside.

7. For Layering – Arrange all the bread pieces in a flat bowl as you like.

8. Now slowly pour in the sugar syrup on the bread pieces slowly until all the sugar syrup is absorbed by the bread pieces. Let the bread rest for 10 minutes.

9. Pour in the creamy milk mixture over the bread pieces evenly.

10. Sprinkle all the fried nuts evenly. Serve warm!

  • If you don’t have a toaster you can toast the bread on a pan.
