What are Zoodles?

Zoodles are spiraled and cooked Zucchini. Spiraling zucchini turns them into noodle shape. It can also be said as low carb noodles.

How to make Zucchini Noodles?

There are a million ways to make zucchini noodles, my favorite way is by using vegetable peeler. I like to use this peeler when making zoodles just for me and my husband because it’s easy to use, easy to clean and does the job just right for one big zucchini which makes a dish for two.

Other popular methods of making Zucchini noodles are –

  • Spiralizer – It is the faster tool that can curl up any vegetable in seconds. Just simply cut off the ends of zucchini, place it to the blade and spin. You have your zucchini curled in just a few seconds.

Pros: It requires little effort and strength, curls up so fast, it is reasonably priced, sturdy and offers different blades as well.

Cons: It will require more storage space than other options.

  • Vegetable Peeler – This peeler slices the thinnest and most delicate noodles ever. You have to just use the peeler and peel the zucchini just like any other peeler. Then simply pull the strands apart with your fingers.

Pros: small & easy to store, easy to use, cheap.

Cons: For a bulk of zucchini’s it takes a very long time to slice.

  • Handheld Spiralizer – It can be used to spirals zucchini to give curly noodles. This tool is easy to use and gives you the curly noodles just like any other spiralizer or peeler.

Pros: easy to use, cheap

Cons: requires strength and effort to use it, gives inconsistent noodles

How to cook Zoodles?

There are 4 ways you can cook zoodles – Saute, Boil, Microwave and oven bake.

  • Saute –  Just add a tablespoon oil, saute zoodles for 2-3 minutes.
  • Boil – Boil water in a pot and add in zoodles. Cook for one minute. Drain the zoodles in a colander and serve. But if you like them dry, blot them with a paper towel before serving.
  • Microwave – Place the zoodles in a microwave safe dish and heat for 30 minutes.
  • Oven Bake – This method is most time consuming and takes most effort. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Take a flat baking sheet, spread a paper towel and spread the zoodles on it. Cook for 15 minutes and remove them. Squeeze the excess water and serve.
